Rosemead : INS Office Sought for Valley

Rejecting Mayor Jay T. Imperial’s proposal to provide immigration assistance, the Rosemead City Council decided Tuesday to try to get expanded federal immigration services in the San Gabriel Valley.
Imperial suggested last month that the city set up an independent office to distribute immigration documents and information.
Instead, the council voted unanimously to try to organize a lobbying effort at today’s meeting of the San Gabriel Valley Assn. of Cities to seek backing from the area’s federal representatives for an Immigration and Naturalization Service office in the valley.
Currently, most legal residents or visitors who want to become citizens must obtain documents and information from the Federal Building in downtown Los Angeles.
