Former New England Banker Charged: Peter J. Regan, a former senior executive at Shawmut Bank, has been charged with embezzling more than $2 million in a variety of schemes, the U.S. attorney for Boston said. Regan, 48, was charged under a new indictment with 55 counts of embezzling and willfully misapplying bank funds. Regan, a former senior vice president for Hartford, Conn.-based Shawmut National Corp., was charged with 12 counts of embezzlement totaling $886,000 in an Aug. 1 indictment.
