First Interstate Releases Loan Data: The Los Angeles bank said it denied 24% of the applications for home loans made by Anglos in California, far lower than the 34% denial rate for blacks and 36% rejection rate for Latinos. First Interstate added that it denied 27% of the home loan applications made by Asians, and 32% of the applications made by American Indians. The data was reported a day after federal regulators released a study showing that minorities are turned down for home mortgages at much higher rates than whites. First Interstate delayed releasing its results pending a board of directors meeting.
