A gunman’s attempt to rob Pier 1 Imports in Thousand Oaks on Tuesday was foiled by a clerk who said she had no key to the cash register and then refused to lie down on the floor, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department reported.
What the clerk didn’t tell the robber was that she could have opened the register by pretending to ring up a sale, said another employee, who declined to identify herself.
The clerk saved the store about $200 that was in the drawer, according to one of the five employees in the store during the 8:40 p.m. incident.
The robber left without taking any merchandise or money, the clerk said.
