Angel right-hander Kirk McCaskill filed for free agency, but the club hopes to reach agreement on a new contract with the 30-year-old right-hander. McCaskill was 10-19 this season, leading the American League in losses, but he frequently was victimized by meager offensive support. He made $2.1 million in 1991.
Dave Winfield, as expected, also filed for free agency. Also filing was Cardinal first baseman Pedro Guerrero, who missed six weeks of the 1991 season because of a leg fracture.
