Richard D. Wood has retired as president and chief executive of Eli Lilly & Co.
Wood, 65, will remain chairman of the pharmaceutical company but will not be active in daily operations. Vaughn D. Bryson, 53, replaces Wood as president and CEO.
Under Wood, Lilly grew into the nation’s seventh-largest drug maker, with more than $5 billion in annual sales. Profit increased sevenfold to $1.13 billion last year.
