$15 Million Raised for New Mission for Needy

A group of Los Angeles business and political leaders have raised $15 million to begin construction of a new Union Rescue Mission.
Headed by Mayor Tom Bradley and John Singleton, vice chairman of Security Pacific Corp., the Second Century Campaign marked the 100th birthday of the mission at a celebration Thursday night.
Union Rescue Mission is the largest Skid Row facility of its kind in the country, providing more than 1.2 million meals each year to the needy and homeless. The city is planning a major redevelopment project where the facility is now located. Construction on the new building is to begin in March. About $1.5 million is still being sought.
