Defenseman Mark Howe of the Philadelphia Flyers will sit out for at least a month because of a broken left thumb suffered during the first period of Saturday’s 5-5 tie with the New Jersey Devils. Howe sat out 61 games last season and 40 the season before that because of back problems.
