ATLANTA — The portrait of Abraham Lincoln that appears on the $5 bill was among property of failed Georgia savings and loans that was sold at a government auction.
An Atlanta entrepreneur who said he just made a killing in the stock market snapped up a collection of Lincoln items for $7,800--the top price paid at the auction Saturday in Bold Springs, northeast of Atlanta.
The Lincoln collection included a framed 1841 document in Lincoln’s handwriting from his Springfield, Ill., law practice and envelopes from his days as President that had cartoons on them.
