Former Simi Valley Planning Commissioner Michael Piper was sworn in Monday night as an appointed member of the City Council.
“I have been council-bashing with a great deal of fun for years,” said Piper, an 11-year veteran of the Planning Commission. “Now I’ll be on the other side. I will take this demotion with dignity and do my best.”
Piper is filling a vacancy on the panel left by Councilman Glen McAdoo, who stepped down in November because of a job transfer.
The City Council appointed Piper, 45, to the open seat by a 3-1 vote at its Dec. 9 meeting. Councilwoman Sandi Webb, who favored a special election, was the dissenting vote.
The council selected Piper after it was unable to agree on four other candidates.
Piper said he is uncertain whether he will run for his council seat in November, when the term is up.
“I don’t even know if I like the job yet,” he said.
