MIAMI — The federal judge presiding over the drug and racketeering trial of former Panamanian leader Manuel A. Noriega was listed in stable condition Thursday after open-heart surgery.
U.S. District Judge William M. Hoeveler, 69, underwent surgery Tuesday at Mercy Hospital.
A spokesman at Hoeveler’s office said the judge was expected to return to the bench when Noriega’s trial resumes on Jan. 6 after a holiday break.
