Three people were killed and another person was missing after a private plane crashed during heavy snows south of Mammoth Lakes, authorities said Sunday.
Two survivors hiked through rugged terrain from the crash site to report that the plane had gone down Saturday evening, Mono County sheriff’s deputies said. Crews from the Sheriff’s Department and the June Lake Mountain Rescue Team were attempting to locate the wreckage and the missing person, deputies said.
“The search teams are out,” said Deputy Frank Ledgard. “They’re on foot. It’s snowing. The going is slow.”
Investigators have not determined where the flight originated. Identities of the victims and survivors were not available.
