Buchwald Suit Update: Humorist Art Buchwald and producer Alain Bernheim filed papers in Superior Court in L.A. seeking to fix damages at $29 million in their long-running lawsuit over the movie “Coming to America.” Their lawyer, Pierce O’Donnell, said in legal documents that Buchwald’s idea was the cornerstone upon which Eddie Murphy’s successful film was built, a point the court already has accepted. The legal briefs said that Buchwald is entitled to an amount between $1 million and $3 million, and Bernheim deserves between $2.6 million and $25 million. The final phase of the trial begins March 2.
