COUNTYWIDE : Activities Planned to Mark King Birthday

Observances of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday in Ventura County will include a freedom march, speeches and a choir performance.
A freedom march is scheduled at 8:30 a.m. today beginning at Plaza Park at 5th and C streets in Oxnard. Participants will walk to the Oxnard Civic Auditorium, where the program will begin at 9 a.m., with Assembly Speaker Willie Brown (D-San Francisco) as the keynote speaker. The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Choir, consisting of local residents, will perform.
Tickets for the event are $6 each and can be purchased at the door.
The St. Paul’s Baptist Church Choir of Oxnard will perform at 8 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Samuelson Chapel at Cal Lutheran University, 60 W. Olsen Road, Thousand Oaks. The event, sponsored by the university and the African American Student Assn., is free, but an offering will be accepted, with proceeds to benefit the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Scholarship.
