Glendale : Remedial Classes to Start

Nearly 600 high school students are expected to enroll in Saturday proficiency courses offered to students who have failed to pass exams required for graduation.
The Board of Education approved the classes Tuesday. They will be held at Glendale’s three high schools, and students who fail to pass one or more proficiency exams in reading, writing and math may enroll in the state-funded program, starting Saturday.
Fourteen Glendale high school students failed the exams and could not graduate during the 1991-92 academic year, school district administrator Jim Gibson said. Classes had been offered through summer school in the past, but will now be held throughout the school year to help students keep up with their classes, he said.
