Jetliner Lands Safely With One Engine Shut Off

A Delta Air Lines jetliner that had just left Los Angeles International Airport returned and landed safely Wednesday after the pilot shut down one of two engines, an FAA spokesman reported.
Moments after the Airbus A-300 jetliner, which can carry 200 people, took off, the pilot noticed an apparent high oil-temperature reading in one engine, said Hank Verbais, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration. Flight 34 landed at 9:50 a.m. without incident, an FAA duty officer said.
