COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Single in 8th Helps SCC Beat San Diego State

Frank Howell’s two-out, eighth-inning single drove in the go-ahead run as visiting Southern California College defeated San Diego State, 4-2, in a nonconference baseball game Wednesday.
David Black (1-0) went 8 2/3 innings for the victory, allowing four hits, while striking out three and walking three.
Doug Rystrom hit a sixth-inning home run for the Vanguards (1-1). The Aztecs fell to 1-1.
In other nonconference baseball:
Cal State Los Angeles 5, UC Irvine 3--Steve Theilman’s two-run seventh-inning triple broke a tie at Cal State Los Angeles.
Steve Ott had evened the game for the Anteaters (3-2) with a sixth-inning bases-empty home run. Corey Parker drove in Irvine’s other two runs.
In nonconference women’s basketball:
Cal State Stanislaus 83, Chapman 67--Marvette Williams had 21 points and eight rebounds for the visiting Panthers (9-11), who were playing without four starters.
