San Gabriel : Gym Renovation Complete

With the help of Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Jim Gott, who was master of ceremonies, a crowd of about 175 celebrated the renovation of the gymnasium at La Casa de San Gabriel Community Center on Tuesday.
The improvement project was done mostly by volunteer contractors and construction workers from the Latino and Chinese communities of the city, center Director Cheryl Prentice said. “The hard work and contributions made by these fine folks are inspiring,” said Councilman Jim Castaneda, chairman of the renovation.
The gym on Mission Drive houses social service and recreational programs. Gott is a former San Gabriel resident. His mother, Barbara Gott, has worked for years as a volunteer at the community center.
