SAN DIEGO : Sailor Admits Firing at Other Sailors

A sailor accused of shooting at other sailors on Interstate 5 near Pacific Highway pleaded guilty Wednesday to two assault charges and firing at an occupied vehicle.

Clarence Hancock, 20, of Chula Vista could be sentenced to a maximum of eight years in state prison and a $20,000 fine. He had been charged with attempted murder stemming from the Dec. 21 incident in which he shot at sailors in a taxicab.

San Diego Superior Court Judge Charles Hayes scheduled sentencing for April 1.

Two vice detectives in an undercover car were nearby at the time of the shooting. They gave chase and wounded Hancock in the leg. Hancock escaped, but was later arrested at a hospital.
