West Hollywood : Sunset Blvd. Project OKd

A major office and retail complex proposed for Sunset Boulevard won the West Hollywood City Council’s final approval Monday without debate.
The developer, Raleigh Enterprises of West Los Angeles, plans a 125,000-square-foot center near Alta Loma Road that will house restaurants and upscale shops on two lower floors and offices on two floors above. The developers have promoted the project as an extension of Sunset Plaza, a stylish stretch of shops and restaurants nearby.
Raleigh Vice President Deborah Rosenthal said that the start of construction at the 8580 Sunset Blvd. site will depend on the firm’s success in landing tenants in coming months.
Neighbors have strongly opposed the development as too big, saying it would block views and badly aggravate traffic in the area. William Edwards, a leader of Residents Organized Against Raleigh, said Tuesday that the group is making preparations to battle the project in court.
