New York to Lose More Jobs: New York state, which has already lost about half a million jobs since the national recession began in 1990, will lose another 100,000 jobs by the end of the year, a study says. The report from the state Assembly’s Ways and Means Committee reflects the pessimistic attitude shared by other analysts. The Business Council of New York state recently reported that more than 40% of the nation’s job losses last year came in New York state. The U.S. Labor Department reported Friday that New York’s unemployment rate had risen to 8.9% in February, up from January’s 8.4%. New York City’s unemployment rate rose to 10.9%, the highest February level in 16 years.
