OUTLOOK
Gerbin takes over the Orange Lutheran program with one goal in mind: to develop a winning attitude. “This team can’t go anywhere but up and we’re working on giving the team some confidence,” Gerbin said. “We have a lot of good athletes and a lot of freshmen, so the potential is there. We just have to develop it.” Gerbin will emphasize the fundamentals with the Panthers, who finished last in league in 1991. “You have to walk before you can run, and a lot of our players need to learn the basics,” Gerbin said. “Every day, we’ll be working on throwing off the right foot and bunting with just about everyone.” Orange Lutheran might get off to a slow start because several of the team’s experienced players were involved with the Panther basketball team in the Southern Section playoffs. One of them, Hines, hit .305 last year and Stewart was the starting first baseman. “I’m still learning names,” Gerbin said. Schulz and Clark are expected to handle the pitching once the team gets set, with a number of the freshmen alternating in the outfield.
