COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Rancho Santiago’s Fontana Picks Up Two Victories

Right-hander Mike Fontana picked up both victories as Rancho Santiago beat Saddleback twice in Orange Empire Conference baseball Friday in Mission Viejo.
The Dons won, 6-4, in 14 innings in a game that had been suspended March 4 after 12 innings because of darkness. Fontana (8-0) pitched two innings to get the victory.
Rancho Santiago scored twice in the 14th with the help of two Saddleback errors.
Octavio Medina hit a home run in the fourth inning for the only run as Rancho Santiago won the second game, 1-0. Fontana pitched seven innings to get the victory for the Dons (18-8, 11-4 in conference), which move into a first-place tie with Riverside.
Saddleback pitcher Tom Waterman (4-5) pitched a six-hitter, facing four batters over the minimum, but took the loss in the second game. Saddleback (12-12-1, 7-9) turned five double plays in the second game.
In Orange Empire Conference softball:
Orange Coast 6, Rancho Santiago 0--Alisha Nelson (12-4) threw her eighth shutout for host OCC (21-6, 11-2 in conference), which has won five in a row. She allowed four hits.
Tracey Colombo started a four-run fifth with a double and later scored. Sam Lutsch had an RBI double in the inning as well. Rancho Santiago is 13-13, 8-6.
Golden West 2, Riverside 1--Stephanie Viola (5-7) struck out four for visiting Golden West (9-19, 4-9).
