COLLEGE ROUNDUP : CLU Hits 5 Homers in 16-4 Romp Over Pomona-Pitzer

Cal Lutheran’s offensive assault on the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference continued Friday with a barrage that included 13 extra-base hits.
The Kingsmen launched five home runs--including Darrell McMillin’s 15th--in a 16-4 SCIAC victory over host Pomona-Pitzer.
Joe Cascione was three for four and hit his first homer for the Kingsmen (24-1, 10-0 in conference play).
Eric Johnson, Jay Lucas and Jim Fifer (grand slam) also homered. Bob Farber, Dan Smith and Johnson each had two hits for Cal Lutheran, which led, 11-0, after two innings. Pat Norville (8-0) pitched the first seven innings and allowed three runs.
In other baseball games:
Valley 7, Moorpark 4--Trailing, 4-3, in the eighth, host Valley scored four runs in a Western State Conference game.
Mark David (two hits) and Carlos Olmos each contributed run-scoring singles in the rally.
Biola 7, The Master’s 3--E.J. Pape was three for five with two doubles for the Mustangs in a National Assn. of Intercollegiate Athletics District 3 game at Biola.
SOFTBALL
Cal State Northridge 4-10, St. Mary’s 0-2--The 20th-ranked Matadors (32-17-1) pounded out 19 hits in a nonconference doubleheader sweep of host St. Mary’s (9-21).
In the first game, CSUN’s Tamara Ivie went four for four and sophomore right-hander Jackie Volkert (4-3) threw a one-hitter with four strikeouts.
Kim Oakes had five RBIs in the second game.
Moorpark 3, Ventura 1--Heather Santiago scattered eight singles and struck out four to spark host Moorpark. Theresa Pasinosky and Kathi Morales each had two hits and a run for Moorpark (15-6, 5-0).
