The Ventura County director of United Blood Services, a nonprofit blood collection agency, has been named the new director of operations for the agency’s western region, a spokeswoman announced Thursday.
Michael Hayward of Moorpark, who joined United Blood Services in 1985, will now supervise facilities in Nevada and New Mexico as well, said spokeswoman Carolyn Tyner.
One of the nation’s largest blood collection agencies, United Blood Services collects, tests and distributes all the blood used by Ventura County patients. Last year, the agency processed more than 40,000 units of blood.
Hayward graduated from an executive training program run by United Blood Services before being named executive director of the company’s Tupelo, Miss., blood center in 1986.
He was transferred to Ventura County in 1988. During his tenure as executive director here, Hayward supervised the opening of three satellite donor centers in Oxnard, Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks.
