Twenty thousand people slogged through the rain in New York to raise money for AIDS services groups. About 35,000 walked under threatening clouds in Boston, while 6,000 marchers in Minneapolis enjoyed sunny skies. Marchers in New York got a rousing welcome from actor Gregory Hines, who serenaded them with “Singin’ in the Rain.” The event was expected to raise more than $4 million. The walk in Boston was festive as blues, jazz and rock bands played at sites along the route. The AIDS Action Committee in Boston estimated walkers raised $2.5 million. There was no immediate fund-raising estimate in Minneapolis.
