Chip Hanauer, driving Miss Budweiser, set a record in qualifying for the Budweiser Gold Cup hydroplane race on the Detroit River. Hanauer drove to an average speed of 168.937 m.p.h. over two laps, or five miles, setting a single-lap record of 169.523.
