Washington State officials accepted a Pacific 10 Conference scolding of the athletic department and penalties against two of the school’s most successful sports programs.
The conference found that the school gave out too many scholarships, giving Washington State an unfair advantage in competition and recruiting in men’s track and field and baseball.
The Pac-10 put Washington State’s athletic department on two years of probation and barred men’s track and field and baseball teams from post-season competition for 1992-93. In addition, the conference took away 4 1/2 scholarships from the sports and stripped the Cougars of 1985 and 1991 conference track and field titles.
