BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Vincent Feels ‘Under Siege’

Commissioner Fay Vincent reiterated Thursday that he would not resign under pressure but hinted that he would not seek a second term.
“I haven’t said that, but do you think someone in my position would want to go through this again?” he said while attending a game between the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays at the SkyDome.
“I feel very much under siege,” he said. “There is no question the commissionership is under pressure. The Cubs suit (regarding realignment) is an attack. I think it is a serious problem for me. The owners tend to throw all the issues in my lap, then blame me for the way I try to resolve them.”
Vincent, whose term expires on March 31, 1994, added that the possible sale of the San Francisco Giants and move to Tampa-St. Petersburg is far from a done deal and said he thinks the Dodgers and San Diego Padres will have problems with it because of the added travel.
