THOUSAND OAKS : Meeting to Address Trails, Open Space

Filling the gaps in Thousand Oaks’ network of trails and open space will be the subject of the second meeting of the Citizens Q of L Action Alliance on Wednesday.

The community organization dedicated to preserving “quality of life” was formed last month by Thousand Oaks City Councilwoman Elois Zeanah and has invited a panel of speakers from the Conejo Open Space and Trails Advisory Committee.

The advisory committee represents mountain bikers, hikers and equestrians and makes recommendations on the acquisition of open space and location of trails.

Jimmy Sloan, an alliance organizer, said panelists will be Jeff Alexander, head of the advisory committee; equestrians Nancy Taylor and Gina Smurthwaite; and Ross Blasman of the Concerned Off-Road Bicyclists Assn.

The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Newbury Park branch of the Thousand Oaks Library.

The alliance has been criticized as a political activist group for Zeanah, who often is at odds with the rest of the council on various issues. Zeanah said the group is a grass-roots community organization that is interested in researching issues of concern in Thousand Oaks.
