Fillmore’s Aparicio Shatters Course Record

Senior Maribella Aparicio of Fillmore High obliterated another course record Thursday as the Flashes won the second Tri-Valley League meet of the season.
Aparicio, the seventh-place finisher in the 1991 Kinney national championships, timed 17 minutes 50 seconds over the 5,000-meter distance at Carpinteria High to crush the course record of 19:16 set by Jamie Kendid of La Reina last year.
Led by the one-two finish of Aparicio and teammate Marta Torres (20:54), Fillmore placed first in the team standings with 21 points, followed by La Reina (61) and Oak Park (75).
Aparicio set a course record of 17:16 over the three-mile distance at Fillmore High two weeks ago in the first Tri-Valley League meet.
