Michael and Meredith Miller, owners of the Fair Oaks Pharmacy and Soda Fountain in South Pasadena, have received a Gold Crystal Award in a merchandising and design competition recognizing outstanding achievement in design or display by individual retail gift shops and departments.
The competition is sponsored by Gifts & Decorative Accessories magazine, an international trade magazine serving the gifts and decorative accessories industries.
The pharmacy, established in 1915, was renovated in 1991 to reflect its original turn-of-the-century style. The Millers purchased a complete set of antique pharmacy fixtures, including the original soda fountain from another circa 1900s pharmacy in Missouri. Among the fountain’s features are stained glass cabinetry, marble-topped counters, ceramic syrup dispensers and vintage ice-cream-cone holders.
Other renovations include a tin ceiling, detailed mosaic tile floor and a parlor with antique wing chairs where customers can relax while prescriptions are prepared.
