LAKE FOREST — A man robbed a restaurant at gunpoint Saturday afternoon after spending several minutes inside the establishment looking for keys he said his mother had lost there the evening before.
Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Ken Lohrey said the man, who was about 20 years old, gained entry to the closed Hungry Hunter Restaurant, 22873 Lake Forest Drive, at about noon Saturday by claiming that his mother had been drunk at the restaurant Friday and had left her keys there.
An employee who let the man into the restaurant helped him search for the keys.
A few moments later, the man knocked at the door again and asked if he could leave his name and number in case the keys were recovered. As the employee went to find pen and paper, the gunman pulled a handgun. The man escaped with about $1,000 in cash.
Officials searched Saturday for the suspect, described as 5 feet, 11 inches tall, 160 pounds, with long brown hair and a blue backpack.
