Huss Helps Lancers Run to 14-7 Victory

ORANGE — There were two words to describe the way the Orange Lutheran Lancers secured a 14-7 victory over Ontario Christian Saturday at Orange Lutheran:
They ran.
That’s what the Lancers did the entire second half, when quarterback Chris Timothy handed the ball off 24 times to backs who gained 133 yards.
“That’s more of our style of play,” Orange Lutheran Coach Tim Taube said. “The thing that surprised me the most was the way we controlled the ball.”
Sophomore Dale Huss led the ground game with 96 yards in 11 carries.
The Knights (3-2-1, 0-1) opened scoring in the first quarter when quarterback Eric De Groot connected with Matt Camping for 19-yard touchdown pass.
Orange Lutheran (5-1, 1-0) struck back when halfback Todd Williamson threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Mike Madden late in the second quarter.
In the third, Lancer senior Dan Peters finished the scoring with a six-yard run that culminated a 12-play, 72-yard drive.
Ontario Christian drove down field late in the fourth quarter, getting to a fourth and inches at the Lancer 46. But defensive end Geoff Greene sacked De Groot behind the line of scrimmage to end the threat.
