Young Voters

Our precinct had a turnout of 842 voters or 76% of our registered voters. The lines were so long that most of the day there was a wait of about 20 minutes.
This precinct covers about six blocks immediately south of Wilshire Boulevard and about four blocks west of Westwood Boulevard. The area consists mainly of large apartment complexes, housing many UCLA students.
We estimated that about 75% of our voters were people under 25 years of age. About 20% of these were first-time voters (as they so proudly informed us).
As we read in the Daily Bruin on Election Day, we think this unprecedented turnout of students was due to the massive effort on the part of UCLA to get out the vote.
