Reasons for Bush’s Loss

For sheer gall, Cal Thomas deserves the award for daring to claim moral issues as “uniquely” Republicans’ in his article (“The Moderates Made an Ash Heap of the GOP,” Column Right, Nov. 5). Moral issues are, of course, the concern of all Americans, without regard to political or religious affiliation. He should reflect on the idea that this arrogant presumption, expressed during the campaign, was perhaps in part responsible for election losses.
As an American who also happens to be a Christian, I believe that the pronouncements on moral issues by the so-called conservative-Christian right at the Houston Republican convention come close to giving a bad name to being a Christian.
