Coach: Michelle Myers (first year).
1991-92: 25-2-2, 8-1-1 in league; finished second in the Angelus League; defeated El Toro, 1-0, to win the Division 4-A title.
Key returners: Trisha Abe, Sr., midfielder; Ellie Acalin, Sr., defender; Heidi DiLuigi, Sr., defender; Amber Escobedo, Sr., midfielder; Katie Fogerty, Sr., midfielder; Heather Hough, Jr., midfielder; Kirsten Keyler, Sr., sweeper; Katie Ward, Sr., forward; Chrissy Whalen, Jr., forward.
Key newcomer: Amanda Fox, Fr., goalkeeper.
Outlook: Mater Dei will be facing the uncertainties of entering the ultra-competitive South Coast League without Kim Donohue, among the best players in the section last season, and section coach of the year Becki Schelhorse, who resigned to go to law school. But Myers, who was an assistant last season, has plenty of talent with which to work, including three first-team all-division selections. It won’t be easy, however. “Games in this league are basically going to be like the playoffs,” Myers said.
