COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Turnovers Help Tulane Roll Past Irvine in Tournament

Tulane forced 35 turnovers and Keisha Johnson scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Wave to a 64-48 victory over UC Irvine in the first round of the Disneyland/Freedom Bowl Classic women’s basketball tournament Friday at the Bren Center.
Jinelle Williams had 12 points and eight rebounds to the lead the Anteaters (0-1), who shot only 33% from the field.
Tulane (1-0) advanced to tonight’s 7 p.m. championship game to play Boise State, an 82-65 winner over La Salle. Irvine will play La Salle for third place at 5.
In the first round of the Cal State Stanislaus women’s basketball tournament:
CS Stanislaus 84, Chapman 67--Melody Earle had a game-high 22 points and six assists for visiting Chapman (0-7). Keli Floyd scored 20 points, and Dawn Lee had 19 points and 12 rebounds for Stanislaus (5-1).
In nonconference women’s college basketball:
Southern California College 64, Claremont 46--Cyndi Lyons scored 18 points for host Southern California College (4-0). Nicole Kelley had 13 points.
In the first round of the Cal State Stanislaus men’s basketball tournament:
Christian Heritage 101, Pacific Christian 75--Charles Ross had 37 points and 14 rebounds for Pacific Christian (3-2), but the Royals made only one of 20 three-point shots. Sean Clark had 24 points and 12 rebounds for Christian Heritage (1-5).
