OXNARD : Unknown Assailant Fatally Shoots Man

A 21-year-old man was fatally shot Thursday by an unknown assailant in the Colonia section of Oxnard, police said.
Police found Vicente Martinez Montanez of Oxnard about 10:48 a.m. in an alley in the 100 block of North Hayes Avenue. Montanez, shot once in the upper body, was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center.
He underwent surgery and died there about 3:30 p.m., police spokesman David Keith said.
Witnesses told police that a man was seen in the area at the time of the shooting, but no description of him was available. Police do not have a motive for the shooting, Keith said.
“We’re still interviewing people in the area,” he said.
The slaying was the seventh in the Oxnard area in the past two weeks.
