HUMBLE BEGINNINGS: It’s hard to pinpoint just when the first organized celebration of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, took place in Orange County. Chances are it was soon after the first temporary synagogue was organized in 1925 in time for the Jewish New Year, says historian Jim Sleeper. Dr. S. Levi of Los Angeles came to recite prayers at Lawrence Hall, 4th Avenue and Birch Street, in Santa Ana.
