Book to Film: Five films are in the running for the Scripter Award, an honor sponsored by the Friends of USC Libraries to recognize the best realization of a book as a film. Nominated by the selection committee are “A River Runs Through It,” “Enchanted April,” “Howards End,” “Malcolm X” and “The Player.” The winning film will be announced at a reception Jan. 8, and then on Jan. 30 the winning screenwriter and author will be honored at a black-tie dinner at USC’s Doheny Memorial Library.
