Shipping Disk Drives: Western Digital Corp., a maker of computer components in Irvine, said it has started volume shipping of two new Caviar brand disk drives.
The company said it has begun shipping 3.5-inch drives, which store data on personal computers, in capacities of 170 megabytes and 256 megabytes. A single megabyte can store the equivalent of 500 typewritten pages.
Customers for the new drives include AST Research Inc., Tandy Corp. and Zenith Data Systems.
