$600,000 Bail Set in Export Case: A federal magistrate in Los Angeles on Wednesday set bail of $600,000 for an Iranian charged with trying to illegally export a sophisticated computer to Iran.
Prosecutors had asked that Reza Zandian, 41, a wealthy international businessman who lives in Paris and Tehran, be held without bail as a flight risk.
U.S. District Judge George H. King said Zandian could put up as bond the deeds to several buildings as well as his shares in an Irvine-based company, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
Zandian is under house arrest at his ex-wife’s Irvine house and must wear an electronic bracelet monitoring his movements.
Federal agents arrested Zandian and a Huntington Beach business associate, Charles Reger, Monday night. Reger’s bail has been set at $50,000.
Neither man had posted bail late Wednesday afternoon, the U.S. attorney’s office said.
