The Pioneers’ star center scored 95 points and grabbed 118 rebounds in four games last week in the Artesia tournament. Charles scored 15 points and had 24 rebounds in an opening round loss to Banning, 60-42. She added 28 points and 30 rebounds in a 56-38 win over George Vanier of British Columbia, and followed that with a 26-point, 28-rebound effort in a 53-24 triumph over El Monte. She helped her team clinch the consolation championship by scoring 26 points and grabbing 36 rebounds in a 58-38 win over Centennial.
Other top performers:
Shannon Perry, the Cerritos senior, led her team to a third place finish in the Gahr tournament. Perry scored 21 points in a first-round win over Redondo, 57-41. She added 18 points in a 46-38 loss to St. Bernard, then scored scored 13 points to lead the Dons to a 45-29 win over Banning.
