Nation IN BRIEF : COLORADO : Coalition to Fight Language, Gay Laws

About 250 people from groups representing gays, Hispanics, blacks and American Indians formed a coalition in Denver seeking repeal of Colorado’s anti-gay-protection and “English only” laws. Amendment 2 bars passage of any law that would provide specific civil rights protections based on sexual orientation. It annuls ordinances that extended such protections. Four years ago, Colorado voters passed a law designating English the official state language and requiring that all official documents be recorded in English. The federation calls itself the Unity Colorado Coalition.
