A free seminar on South County gangs and their effect on the city will be presented March 31 at 7 p.m.
The forum will include presentations by deputy probation officer Bill Collins, leader of the area Gang Violence Suppression Task Force, and representatives from the Saddleback Valley Unified School District and the district attorney’s office.
“It’s not that there’s necessarily an incredible amount of gang activity in the city, but we are being impacted by gang activity around the county,” said Councilwoman Melody Carruth.
Police have identified about 15 street gangs with about 1,200 members in South County, the area from El Toro to Laguna Beach to San Clemente.
The seminar will be held in the community room of the Saddleback Valley Board of Realtors at 25552 E. La Paz Road. Call (714) 707-2600 for more information.
