Howard Davis has resigned after five seasons as boys’ basketball coach at Hueneme High.
Davis, 30, guided the Vikings to a 16-9 record this season, including a 10-4 Channel League mark to finish tied for second with Santa Barbara. The performance was Hueneme’s second-best in 20 years, and the team’s best league finish in 11 seasons.
Davis compiled a 47-74 record in five seasons, including a 24-46 league mark.
Davis cited “personal reasons” for his departure.
The program appeared to be on the upswing after years of decline.
Davis said he might pursue another coaching job in the future.
“I’m going to relax for a year and see what happens after that,” Davis said.
