Enforcement Actions Up: One statistic showing a steep incline is the number of actions that federal banking regulators have taken against national banks, Gary Findley said.
The U.S. comptroller of the currency took 1,718 enforcement actions against national banks last year, a 35% increase over 1,269 orders handed out the previous year, the banking lawyer said. More than two-thirds of the nation’s banks, though, are state-chartered and not regulated by the comptroller of the currency. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., however, has been busy with them. Findley didn’t have statistics for FDIC actions.
