From Staff and Wire Reports
The 53-foot trimaran Great American II passed Cape Horn in record time this week in pursuit of the record for sailing from San Francisco to Boston.
Rich Wilson and Bill Biewenga calculated they were four days ahead of the pace set by the clipper ship Northern Light when it set the record of 76 days in 1853.
The time of 33 days 4 hours and 48 minutes for Great American II to go from San Francisco to Cape Horn eclipsed the record of 35 days 6 hours by the clipper ship Comet in 1840.
