COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Golden West Scores Late to Hold Off Rancho Santiago, 8-5

Golden West scored three runs in the fifth and sixth innings and then held on to defeat Rancho Santiago, 8-5, in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Thursday at Golden West.
Jim Slagle had three hits, including a double and a triple, David Schultz had two triples and Brand Caso had a two-run home run for the Rustlers (7-5, 2-0 in conference). Rancho Santiago (11-2, 2-1) scored three in the eighth inning as Chris Lugo hit a two-run home run and Jason Minici hit a solo homer, but the Dons couldn’t rally further.
In other Orange Empire Conference baseball:
Orange Coast 11, Riverside 6--Curtis Bruce was three for four, scoring three runs and two stolen bases for Orange Coast. Jason Parsons was two for four with a double and four RBIs. Kyle Wilson was the winning pitcher (1-2). Orange Coast is 8-5, 2-0.
Saddleback 5, Cypress 1--Ted Wilkes homered for Saddleback (9-3, 1-2). Cypress (11-5, 1-2) got a homer from Greg Tippin.
In Orange Empire Conference softball:
Cypress 4, Fullerton 1--Susan Dugas had two hits, scored a run and drove in another for visiting Cypress (13-4, 2-0). Leigh Sager (5-1) pitched a four-hitter for the Chargers. Fullerton is 7-2-1 and 1-1.
In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:
Orange Coast 7, Irvine Valley 2--Ali Esna won at No. 1 singles for Orange Coast (4-2, 2-2).
In Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis:
Fullerton 8, Cypress 1--Host Fullerton (4-1, 3-1) won five of six singles matches and all three doubles matches. Renee Ivy defeated Janice Carter, 6-3, 6-0, in No. 1 singles.
